The Eyes of a Child

Those who know I work at Water Country USA often ask me if I can really have fun playing in the park. Honestly, you are never off duty. When I come to Busch Gardens or Water Country USA on my free time, I am alert to the same things I see when I am working. However, I do have a blast when I visit because I see the parks through the eyes of my children. My boys are 4 and 7 years old. The oldest, Alex, is a dare devil, and his younger brother, Zachary, takes a little more time to warm up to some of the more adventurous rides.

This season Zachary is now over 42 inches tall. This opened up 3 new rides (Jet Scream, Nitro Racer and Rampage) for Zachary, but my little cautious child was apprehensive about riding them. We brought Zachary up to Nitro Racer first thing before it got busy in the park. It took 10 minutes to convince him to hold onto his mat and ride down. The look on Zachary’s face the first time he rode down was amazing. He was thrilled to race down a big boy slide.

After the Nitro Racer experience I thought he would never ride Rampage. But, I didn’t count on Alex convincing his little brother to give it a shot. I waited at the bottom while my little man walked up and waited to ride. He hopped right up, held onto his sled and rode down. Zachary proudly walked around and told everyone he was a big boy now because he rode the big boy rides. It may take two more summers, but Zachary assures me he is ready for Vanish Point when he is tall enough.
